We were pleased to be a part of the 2013 Crystal Gala. We were the official photographers who captured the event and took photographs of the attendees in their beautiful outfits. It was an amazing evening and $160,000 was raised towards the Crystal Gala Health Unit at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. Since 1999, over $1.8 million has been raised by the Crystal Gala Committee.
You can see all the photographs of the Crystal Gala on their Flickr stream.
We are pleased to be nominees for the Abbotsford News’ annual A-List. We were nominated for the second year in a row in the Visual Artist category. It is not only an honour to be nominated, but also flattering that our community sees us as artists not just a business or photographers. We want to thank everyone who has voted and those who have supported us over the years to allow us to live our dream of being full-time professional artists.
Our studio was invaded last week by cute kids in costumes again! It’s the sixth time we’ve run this even where our clients can bring their kids and a donation to the Abbotsford Food Bank and we’ll photograph their kids and send them some digital files. You can see the gallery of images on our Facebook page.
Above is Jason in his camera costume. One evening Lexi said to him, “Daddy, you should have a camera on your head!” A few hours later in the production room with an exacto blade, foam core board and a glue gun and he created his camera head.
It’s the second time, Jason’s been honoured to have one of his images grace the cover of Gallerie magazine which is the publication that the Professional Photographers of Canada creates. This time it was his stunning image, Shoe-icide which has generated a lot of accolades this year. You can read a brief article where Jason discusses how he created the image on page 30.
Jason has two images selected by the Professional Photographers of Canada to represent Canada in the first World Photographic Cup. It is an huge honour to be selected to represent our country in his first International competition.
This image is titled Radial Ascension and was created of a glass elevator and staircase in a home in Vancouver that our client, Falcon Homes, built. Falcon Homes won several Georgie Awards for the home and it is to date, the schmanciest home that we’ve photographed.
One of our highlights for 2013 has been We Day in Seattle. We were asked to be their celebrity photographer to capture some of the stars wearing the Me to We Artisans jewellery line after they came off stage.
We have never experienced anything quite like it. Some of the people we rubbed shoulders with (or more accurately tried not to stare at) were Magic Johnson, MC Hammer, Jennifer Hudson, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Martin Luther King III, Canadian Tenors, Nelly Furtado, Kid President, Pete Carroll and four Seattle Seahawks, Martin Sheen and Hedley to name the ones who I can remember off the top of my head.
The We Day team is phenomenal and run a very efficient and smooth event. When you are coordinating that many celebrities, you need to be prepared for anything. So we watched from back stage and tried to act natural as we were interacting with and photographing people we’ve only read about before.
Jennifer Hudson had one of the largest crowds of people following her around and there was lots going on at the time so it’s a bit of a blur. One thing I do remember though is she knows how to work a camera!
About a year and a half ago, we had a super, extra, amazingly awesome day when our youngest child was born and we got to be part of granting a wish through Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon for Kate. There was recently an article in the Chamber Voice addition to the Abbotsford Mission Times talking about the occasion and all of the people who were involved.
The photograph above is one of the portraits we did for Kate’s grad this year.
Jason Brown of Revival Arts is honoured to have his image “Shoe-icide” selected by the Professional Photographers of Canada as one of 18 images to represent Canada in the premier World Photographic Cup.
There will be 19 countries competing: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Pakistan, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States of America. Judging will take place in November and we can’t wait to see what other photographers from around the world have submitted and how Jason’s work stands up in his first International competition.
We had the privilege of photographing Nelly Furtado earlier this year for Artisans Jewellery at the Seattle We Day. We had a few minutes with her backstage in between interruptions like MC Hammer stopping by to chat with her (Jason backed up into him) and sneaking off to watch Macklemore perform for a few minutes (he wore his fur coat). Our image is on the cover of the Fall 2013 Artisans Magazine.
Nelly Furtado is an ambassador for Free the Children and she is passionate about education for girls. She has generously committed to donating $1 million to Free the Children to further the education of girls in Africa.
She was a delight to photograph as she is beautiful both inside and out. We hope to see her at future We Days!
We’ve been in our current studio space on Eagle Mountain in Abbotsford for three years now. It’s perfect for us and we love it! We recently had some renovations done by Mountainside Design + Build. (They were fabulous!) The floors are now concrete and the walls are a matte art gallery white. We’ve have samples of work we’ve done for our clients, a wall of fame of the celebrities we’ve photographed and a wall showing the various awards that Jason has earned over the years. If you’re in the area, please stop by to check it out. For those of you who can’t visit us, we invite you do a tour through our website or Facebook page.
