The bride was surrounded by her friends as they bustled around getting ready. I started to notice that there were purple accents everywhere. The bride’s shoes, the bridesmaid dresses, the flowers, the emergency kit bag and the brides water container were a few of the purple things we noticed. I think it may be someone’s favorite colour!

We have know the groom for years as he is a photographer friend and we felt honored that he chose us to photograph his wedding. I know people have told us that their favorite part of a wedding is when the bride is walking up the aisle and they look over to see the groom’s reaction. If they were at this wedding they would have loved Chris and his tears.

We had fun with the wedding party doing their photographs. I would say the grand finale was when they were on the runway (which they didn’t realize was a runway) in a gutless limo golf cart when they started yelling, “There’s a plane coming for us!” So they quickly pulled off and the plane ended up doing a fly over. They then went to the end of the runway only to realize that it was coming back again. It landed and they went off to the reception but I think the golfers and managers watching almost had heart attacks.

Being photographers, we are completely sentimental about families and the love connections that people have with each other. We love it when people cry at weddings and we have to admit we shed a few tears at this one. The speeches were heartfelt testaments to the memories, friendships and love that are the foundation Lindsay and Ben are building the rest of their lives on.

The day wasn’t all tears as there was lots of laughter, joking, gift giving, boating, fishing and fun. Plus the food was fabulous! There were so many details that went into making the day unique and one to remember. From the guest thumbprint art, to the engagement portrait display, to the cork-held placecards, to the initials etched on the tree that was part of the backdrop to the ceremony, there were so many personalized touches put in to their wedding day.

The other day, I visited my grandpa in the hospital and my grandma showed me a card she had given him the day before on his 82nd birthday. She had printed photographs from their wedding in 1954 and placed them in the card. Those photographs have always been some of my favorites.

My grandpa was beaming and dashingly handsome. My grandma was radiant and beautiful. I grew up looking at the images and marveling that there was a time that my grandpa had hair! I also grew up looking at their wedding photographs hanging in their entrance hall and wondering what my wedding would be like one day. Now my children look at the photographs and are confused by who the young people are and enthralled that they’re their great grandparents.

A visual legacy is an important part of a family heritage. I’m not sure how you could put a price tag on it. Professional photography is an investment that will become a cherished part of generations of a family.

Phew! We just finished our annual website update. It gives us a great feeling of accomplishment to look back at our work and see so many favorite photographs in the same place. I’m feeling a little sappy after it all and want to tell you that we are incredibly privileged and blessed to do what we love. Behind every picture you see on the website there is a story. We are thankful to the hundreds of people who have shared a part of their life and story with us.
