We were honored to photograph Adam Beach for the 2012 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards. He is one of 15 recipients who will be honored for their contributions in a variety of fields such as arts, politics, health, environment and youth. As an actor, he is receiving his award for the contribution to the arts. Some of his recent roles are Arctic Air, Combat Hospital, Cowboys and Aliens and Law & Order: SVU.

Revival Arts is a photography studio in the greater Vancouver area. They specialize in promotional and other portraiture.

graham’s grad : abbotsford graduation photographer

I have to admit this is a little belated blog post but it’s nice to spread things like Christmas, birthdays and graduations out, right? Graham graduated from MEI in Abbotsford this June and we did his portraits. He brought a friend to the session who said to me, “I think you were my piano teacher!” It’s always a small world when you’ve lived in Abbotsford for any length of time.

horses and their riders : equestrian photographer surrey

I was trying to come up with the title and I think the word “riders” falls short of the relationship that people have with their horses. It’s like guitarists with their guitars. Just calling them a guitar “player” doesn’t do justice the love they feel for their instrument and the way they can make it sing. Maybe there is an word in the equestrian world that capture the relationship, bond and passion that sparks between a horse and rider. I’m just not privy to it.

So you’ll have to rely on Jason’s images that capture the bond these women have with their gorgeous horses. The horses personalities came out as Jason photographed them – calm, feisty, mischievous, curious. Here are a few of our favorite images from their portrait session …

Elyse was about my daughter’s age for her when I started playing piano for her ballet exams. Now she’s a gorgeous young woman who has graduated! She came for her session on her prom day in her gorgeous dress and looked like a princess. Here are a few favorites from her session …

We are all about marking milestones and celebrating life. Our friend is having a milestone birthday this year and set a goal to ride a bike marathon. What makes this particularly inspiring is that this is the first athletic challenge she has ever pursued.

Every sunny day she is loading her bike in her car and heading off to ride, ride, ride. It looks easy from my perspective but I’ve heard that biking long distances is one of the most painful things you can ask your body to do.

She came in to our studio so Jason could photograph her gorgeous legs with her bike and her fabulous heels. I have a feeling that this is only the first of many new athletic accomplishments for her and the beginning of a wonderful new chapter in her life.

jon : artsy grad photography

Graduation is a right of passage. Having an artsy streak from a very young age, when I graduated I knew I wanted something different than cap and gown photographs. I had my grad portraits done with a grand piano. They turned out great and the experience is still a special memory!

I love it when parents recognize creativity in their grad and come to us to capture it. Jon is into movies and film. He sent us some examples that we used as inspiration for his session. It turned out to be a sunny day and Jason had a great time playing with the light and shadows in some of the images.

His mom wrote this about Jon’s session:

“We had our son’s grad pics taken by Jason and a month beforehand they wanted to know what kind of person he was, what he liked to do, what movies he liked, what art he was into. This was all to get a feel for what kind of pictures to take.

Well, when it came time to take the pictures, they nailed it perfectly. It was totally artistic, which was so much like who Jon was. We loved every one of them. They took all the time we wanted and took so many different shots. Not just one or two.

They are such a joy to work with and we will go back again and again. Thanks so much for making our time with you so worthwhile!”
