The Brent Ellis Group entertained a full house at City Blends at Mt. Lehman station as part of the Envision Coffee House Concert Series. They performed smooth jazz covers and originals. Darcie stopped in to catch some of the tunes and take a few photos. Here are our favorites …

J.D. Miner ain’t your ordinary hillbilly band! Tonight they entertained at Legal Grounds Coffee House in Downtown Abbotsford – with a ‘unique blend of riverboat jazz, whimsical folk and soft core bluegrass in which rhythm is king’. J. D. Miner is multi-instrumentalists Joel Klingler, Darryl Klassen and Joe Worst on double bass.

J.D. Miner is the fifth performance in the Envision Coffee House Series – which take place at various coffee houses every Saturday night. Jason stopped in and got a few photographs of them in action:

Madflower rocked the house on Saturday at Ethical Addictions in the second performance of the Envision Coffee House Concert Series in Abbotsford, BC. Madflower is known for their unique blend of throught provoking lyrics, bluesy groove and their love of performing for audiences and did not disappoint this weekend. Madflower is made up of Willis Taylor, Steve Walsh, Kevin Phillips and Eric VanSteenis.

Every Saturday night until the end of June and then again September – November there will be live music in coffee houses throughout Abbotsford. Here are the next few weeks:
April 19 – Two Twelve Degrees at Chapleoâ€™s Coffee Bistro (rock to jazz standards)
April 26 – The Carissa Neufeld Trio at Clayburn Gourmet Gallery (jazz standards and original music)
May 3 – JD Miner at Legal Grounds Coffeehouse (hillbilly jazz)
May 10 – The Brent Ellis Group at Mt. Lehman City Blends (smooth jazz covers and originals)

Jen Lewin kicked off the Envision Coffee House Concert Series in style on Saturday at The House of James. She is a keyboardist and singer who’s edgy, energetic jazz influenced style is a mix of pop and rock. She performed with Derek Difilippo on upright bass and Gavin Youngash on guitar. Darcie is a volunteer with the series and captured a few photographs of the performance …

Sabrina Laimon and I (Darcie) have been friends since grade 11 when we both played piano for the choirs at our high school. She is a musical marvel (among many other things like yoga, acting, dancing, friendship, shopping, etc.) and is set to record her first CD. The Fasts are some of the most talented, down to earth people we’ve worked with. I’ve always wondered if they have a couple sound proof rooms in their home for all the music practicing that goes on – voice, piano, violin, guitar, keyboards and who knows what else.

They asked Jason to take some photographs for their newest CD. They were looking for something artistic, classy and fun. We’ll post their final cover and a link to their gospel music website when it’s all ready. In the meantime, here are a few of the photos from their session …

cross-processed film

While we shoot digital, we still do have film cameras that we use at our portrait sessions. We use film for cross processed and infrared film. Cross processed film has amazing punchy colours and if you have a good photographer and lab, the skin tones will still be natural (not green or other off-color). Since it takes longer to get the photographs back, we usually don’t blog them but we thought we’d post a few recent shots…

We had a photosession this weekend with emerging country singer Kristal Barrett. We met her when she was performing at the Bridal Extravaganza and have been looking forward to capturing her sparkling personality and her silky voice in photographs. She’s the one we needed the yellow chair for.

She has one more trip to Toronto to complete her recording and will be releasing a single this summer with the CD due to come out in fall. We can’t wait to hear it and wish her all the best with her career!

We used film on this session so we don’t have the cross processed photographs taken with our vintage twin lens reflex camera back yet. We will post a few more shots when we get them back.
