We are currently accepting nominations for children to photograph for our third book of child portraiture. If you know some children who would love to be a part of this project which supports Make-A-Wish, you can find more information and sign up at www.imaginekids.ca.

Imagine is the book of child portraiture that we create each year. All of the session fees for our third book will be donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation. If you’re interested in having your child(ren) participate for a $75 per family fee, please visit www.imaginekids.ca to sign up.

This is our third year of this exciting project and Trethewey House is a beautiful location to have natural light portraits done. It is an arts and crafts style home built in 1920 by timber baron J.O. Trethewey. Children enjoy exploring the home as it has been styled in ’20s furniture and finishings and even has a room for the Trethewey’s young son, Joey, complete with a few of his toys.

When Darcie’s brother, Dan, was 15 years old, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma). He immediately began aggressive chemo and radiation treatments that lasted for months. He was extremely sick during that time and was in and out of Children’s, Surrey and MSA Hospitals with his treatments and complications. It was a hard time for him and my entire family.

There are some perks that children with cancer are blessed with that bring light and hope to their difficult journey. He received a trip to a Canucks game and was given a hat autographed by the players. He had rides in hot sports cars. My parents bought him as many Triple O burgers as he’d eat. But the biggest blessing of all was that he was granted a wish from Make-A-Wish for a laptop.

That laptop was with him through every trip to the hospital and every day he was recovering in between rounds of chemo and radiation. It gave him something to do and a reason to sit up each day. Here’s what Dan has to say about it:

“Make-A-Wish’s generous gift of a laptop while I was undergoing chemotherapy at 16 years old was the perfect escape to entertain myself while admitted in the hospital. Their gift helped inspire me to pursue a degree in Computer Information Systems and to start my own web design and development company.”

Make-A-Wish makes a difference in many children’s lives and I’m sure we will hear of many more heart warming wish stories throughout this project. Our goal with our third Imagine book is to raise $6000 by June 2012 in order to grant a wish. To reach our goal, we are going to need your help to get the word out! We need many families to sign up for sessions so that we can donate their session fees to Make-A-Wish.

We already have families signing up through our website and are looking forward to photographing their children and featuring them in our book in the new year.

As I go through the thousands of images now and select one of each child for the book, I am struck by how unique each child is. I don’t know how Jason does it, but he manages to capture the smiles, gestures, stances and attitudes that make each child unique.

We haven’t had a chance to post images from every session just due to time constraints. If we photographed your child and you want to show off your child’s Revival Arts portraits on Facebook or online, just send Darcie an email (not a Facebook message) and she’ll watermark a few of the ones Jason retouched for your order and email them to you.
