We were honored to photograph Adam Beach for the 2012 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards. He is one of 15 recipients who will be honored for their contributions in a variety of fields such as arts, politics, health, environment and youth. As an actor, he is receiving his award for the contribution to the arts. Some of his recent roles are Arctic Air, Combat Hospital, Cowboys and Aliens and Law & Order: SVU.

Revival Arts is a photography studio in the greater Vancouver area. They specialize in promotional and other portraiture.

Kristine Fretwell of Busy But Healthy, contacted us for some updated promotional images to use on her websites and social media outlets. She is a health conscious woman who shares her passion for healthy living, fitness and nutrition through her websites and social media.

As a busy mom who likes to stay healthy, I have enjoyed following her on Facebook and gleaning some tips and recipes from her website. I think it’s a concept and lifestyle that many people can relate to these days!

One of the perks of our studio is that we have so many great areas that lend themselves to great photography. I tidied up the miscellaneous piles and we were able to use our kitchen for this promotional portrait session. Here are a few of Kristine’s updated promotional images …

We’ve photographed Brittney for a few years at Aerial Dance and Acro Academy. Her family has some serious good looking and super talented genes running in it! Jason discovered this summer that our garage is an amazing location for headshots. So when she came in for an updated headshot for some Vancouver auditions, he moved the vehicle out and captured some beautiful portraits of her. Here’s a headshot from her session …

John van Dongen is one of the longest standing MLAs in the BC Legislative and recently came to Revival Arts for updated photographs when Rebar Creative was developing a new website. professional portraits : before + after example

I posted a before and after headshot of myself taken last spring on Revival Arts Facebook page and decided to put them on our blog as well with a bit of an explanation after my sister and a few close friends told me that I didn’t look like myself. This is to make it clear that there was no trickery involved in these photographs. Here’s the before image:

This is taken at the end of our hall with our point and shoot camera. My clothing, hair and makeup are exactly the same as the after photograph taken 2 minutes later. The shine is from the flash and my face looks different because the wide angle lens is distorting it. Here’s the after photograph:

The angle, lighting, posing, equipment and post production has been changed – I haven’t – my bangs are still even crossed a bit on the front.

My family was joking that the improvement is due to the $7000 worth of equipment difference between the two photographs. But then Jason so graciously pointed out that you could put the professional lens and camera in the hands of many “professional photographers” and you would not get a good result. He likes to say the most important part of a camera is the 12 inches directly behind it. He’s right!
