As we move from one photography project to another, we are usually the most excited about ones that are upcoming or ones we are currently working on. One that still stands out in our mind from last year is a stock image we created for Van Belle Nursery that has become one their main branding image.
So when they called us up again this year with some new image needs, we were excited to work with them again. Their marketing team was creating a piece about successorship at Van Belle Nursery and needed some photographs of the founder with one of his sons. Here are a few of the images we created for them …

The Goddess Movement keeps adding great new classes to their repertoire. Some of the latest are their Aerial Hoop classes. I tried a class earlier in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it despite my tendency to shy away from any activities that involve being more than 2 feet off the ground. The instructor, Lyndsey, has been studyied Aerial Hoop in Vancouver and has put together a great program. We recently went there to create some photographs with impact for the studio to use with their marketing materials. Here are a few favorites …

Their schedule for classes starting in September just came out yesterday. I don’t think it’s online yet but you can always call or email their office for more information.

One thing I enjoy about our professional headshot photography is the chance to spend one on one time with interesting people. I have a little book of questions that I ask to take their mind off of having Jason take photographs. It’s always entertaining hearing answers to question like what super power would you like to have or what was the best costume you ever wore. There’s usually one question and answer that stands out in our mind as we think back to a session.
Jason had some great answers to our questions and we had a fun time doing the photography. He had a couple outfits so we did both a casual and formal look. He currently works as the Director of Development for MetroCan Construction and also does speaking engagements. Here are a few favorites ….

Congratulations to Jason on his most recent photography awards! At the Annual Image Competition of the Professional Photographers’ Association of Canada (PPOC), held recently in Mont-Trembant, Quebec, Jason Brown had 3 images accepted and exhibited in the National Print Salon.
This was Jason’s first national professional photography competition so we weren’t sure what to expect. It is an honor and encouraging to have the judges recognize the technical and artistic skills that go into his images. We value being continually challenged to produce better quality work which in turn means our clients have award winning art to display in their homes and to represent their businesses.
This year’s competition received 1047 entries and was judged by a selected panel of master photographers from across Canada. There are over 925 photographers who are members of the Professional Photographers’ Association of Canada (PPOC). With the recent proliferation of photographers, hiring someone who is a member of a professional association such as PPOC demonstrates that they are dedicated to their craft and committed to a high standard of excellence.
Each photographer is allowed to enter four images into the competition. Out of those images, we guesstimate that about half of them don’t even get accepted. There are four levels: unaccepted, accepted, merit and excellence. It is very rare to receive an excellence as it means that the image is virtually flawless. This year there were about 20 awarded to the top photographs entered from across the country and Jason received one of them. At the end of the competition, each judge chooses one image out of the 1047 entered as their favorite. Two judges chose images of Jason’s.
All three of Jason’s winning images were exhibited in the National Image Competition and will be published in a coffee table book. We are printing up samples of the winning photographs and will have them hanging in our studio later this week in the hall of competition prints. If you come through, we’ll show them to you and explain a bit more about the process of preparing an image for competition.

We may be just a teeny bit biased, but we think that the model for Bugalug’s Cinch belt image was extra cute. She is our daughter, Lexi, who loves to pose for the camera when it suits her mood. We were excited when E-Shaw’s featured Bugalug and used the photograph.
Sundi, the creator of the Bugalug Cinch belt, sent us a sample a while ago that Lexi absolutely loves. This is high praise from a three year old who has a very distinct and eclectic personal style when it comes to her clothing! I love the belts too because they are functional and fashionable. They are reversible and have a simple snap closure that make the belts easy to put on and take off.
Bugalug also carries a line of vibrant array of fanciful barrettes, headbands and ponytail loops. You can view and order their products online at www.bugalugbaby.com.
