We were excited to be invited to photograph the beautiful and talented instructors at The Goddess Movement in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. We are in the process of working on their headshots and will post a few samples later but in the meantime, here’s a dramatic, creative photograph that Jason did with very simple lighting.
For those of you who are interested in lighting, there’s a spot on the wall to create the red circle plus an SB-800 on either side of the model to create rim lighting. If you know how to do it, it’s very simple and creates impressive results. Here’s the photograph and below is a lighting diagram created on a friend’s iPhone with the strobox app …

The top Russian pairs figure skaters and Japanese speed skaters have been using the ice at the Abbotsford Rec Centre to practice and members of the public are allowed to watch for free. Being fans of free Olympic entertainment, we took the kids and the camera.
The skaters were amazing! I’ve skated the same ice as these Olympians and it seemed like they shrunk the rink for them. The distance it takes me a minute to wobble around they could glide over in seconds. I found someone to confirm that the rink is indeed Olympic regulation size.

Jason recently was invited to shoot with other photographers in Vancouver at the beautiful Ironworks Studios. It’s always a treat for Jason to hang around with other photographers and take pictures of beautiful people. Thanks to Nick Beaulieu of The Other Angle Photography for organizing the event and to Britt Clancy for doing hair and makeup. Here are a few favorites:

Jason’s also put a flash gallery online that you can view: www.rablog.ca/ironworks

Part of the W.J. Mouat High School yearbook class came by our studio to get a taste for of our life as photographers in Abbotsford. Jason graduated from the same school a few years ago. We shared a bit about our career path and gave some composition tips before pulling out the lights and doing a photo shoot. We went all out and even used the wind fan for a few photos. Here are a few of our favorites …

Kelsey of KV BIJOU has become a friend after we connected a year ago through Facebook. She designs jewellery and recently was invited to be part of the guest lounge at the Sundance Film Festival. There was a great article on her in The Vancouver Sun yesterday. Here is half of the necklaces she’ll be taking with her when she goes this weekend.

We designed and printed a banner for her booth. Here it is on our office floor. (Jason originally was laying the other direction but it looked a little creepy with the model next to him so that’s why he’s upside down.)

The KV Bijou website has a great variety of necklaces, earings and bracelets for sale. The jewellery that she’s designed for the stars of Sundance will also be available on her website in February. Here’s a sneak peek at one of the designs she made for Sundance.

MetroCan Construction has handed over the keys to the Olympic Village and it was time to celebrate with the team who made it happen. They had a fun evening at the River Rock Casino in Richmond where everyone was treated to a marvelous meal, awards presentations and great performances. Some of the highlights were dancers from Aerial Acro + Dance Academy, a cake in the shape of the Olympic Village, a presentation by Olympian Victoria Brenner and then Barney Bentall and The Legendary Hearts rocked the house. Here are a few pictures from the event …

Robert Lee YMCA on Burrard in Vancouver is being built and will be open May 2010. Their website designed and implemented by the talented team at Domain7 went live last week and we were pleased to do some of the photography for it.
I think custom photography is a relatively inexpensive way for businesses to make their websites stand out from competition using stock photography. We are always pleased to work with designers to create photography specific for websites. Here are some of the photos that Jason did for this project. You can click the screen shot above to visit the complete website.
